Look of the day

Cardigan Chadwicks
Shirt Dickies
Skirt Ellen tracy
Tights Chadwicks
Shoes Fluevog
It's the end of May, but it's been rainy and cold lately. I thought that I was done with wearing tights, but I got to haul them out this week!

Yay! I love tights!

I can't wear these Fluevogs without hose, so it was nice to haul these beauties out of the closet too.

In other news, look how long and shaggy my hair is getting. I'm at the point where I have to use product, a round brush, blow dryer, and flat iron in order to have it behave properly. My 'doin' my 'do' time hast gone from zero to twenty minutes.

I'm sad about this, but it was my choice to grow my hair out, so I guess I get to live with my choice.

Weight: 168.

Charcoal Grey Skirt

Shirt Amazon
Tshirt Old Navy
Sweater Ralph Lauren
Skirt Ellen Tracy
Sweater Tights too old to remember
Shoes Fluevog
So I just wanted to take a minute to talk about this skirt.

I had been needing/wanting a dark charcoal grey pencil skirt for some time and had no time to make one.

I just happened to be walking to the checkout at Costco and came across this EllenTracy skirt for twelve dollars. I know. Costco. But twelve dollars? You would have to be joking if you thought I didn't snap that baby up.

It's the perfect color, the perfect length, and it's knit so it's super comfortable. I wear it just about every week. If not once, sometimes twice.

I liked it so much that I even went back and bought another one in black.

It's a sickness, I know.

Grey V-Neck, Denim Skirt

Shirt Chadwicks
Sweater Tommy Hilfiger
Skirt Ralph Lauren
Tights Smith's
Shoes Fluevog
I am mostly posting this to show off my tights. These are the cutest, coziest, warmest nicest tights in the world. Of course I bought them at the grocery store.

I super duper love how well they go with my Fluevogs!!

The only minus is that they are not long enough so the crotch sags between my legs. Being tall and skinny for most of my life, I'm used to it. When I danced ballet, my leotard was always pulled down so far because the crotch of my tights was hanging down so low.

See? So cute!

Look of the Day 11-15-12 Grey V Neck Sweater

Orso is a great accessory
I know that I’ve written in the past how I have a perfect thing and something happens to it (like it wears out) and I can never find a replacement.

WAIT - That's a lie. I’ve written in the past how I find the perfect thing and I don’t buy it and then have buyer’s remorse for years because I didn’t buy it and it haunts me because it was so perfect and would go with everything but the time has passed and I can’t find it anywhere!

So this is similar in that I can’t find the thing that I’m looking for anywhere.

A long, long time ago when I was nineteen I had a very fashion conscious boyfriend. He was, like, SO fabulous. He had a grey v-neck sweater that I adopted. I wore it with everything; jeans, my black and white houndstooth pants, a black skirt and tights, etc. It hung right and was warm enough and not itchy and held its shape and was well made and I could go on, but let’s just leave it there and say it was perfect.

I returned it along with some other things he gave/loaned to me after we broke up. (He let me keep the ring, though!)

Stupid, stupid, stupid! Why o why did I return that sweater? I guess I was moving on to a new phase of my life and didn’t want it to remind me of my old phase. That, or it was because I was completely over him and I knew that he really liked the sweater too and I was just borrowing it and technically it belonged to him, so out of a sense of right and wrong or something I returned it. I didn’t need a souvenir from our relationship.

This was the longest relationship I had been in so far: a whopping 18 months. Even though he broke up with me I think the break-up bothered him more than it bothered me, and it was the first time that I had ever been dumped where I didn’t want the guy back. The minute he left, I was so glad we were over. I knew he was right that we should break up, and I was over him. He was the first ex-boyfriend that I was able to honestly be just friends with afterwards. No part of me yearned to get back together with him ever and that has remained true still to this day. There has never been any hard feelings between us.

So I guess that’s why I returned the sweater.

Any way…..

I was getting some things in Costco the other day and I walked past this grey v-neck cable knit Tommy Hilfiger sweater for $19.99 and I had to buy it. Not because of all the memories of the ex, but because of all the memories of the outfits! It’s perfect and I hope that it never wears out!!

I should have bought two.

Look of the day 11-8-12

Grey, grey Grey

The Photographer and I are experimenting with light and poses. I really should have looked at the photos before wearing this outfit in public. In my defense, I checked the greys under the light in my closet and they seemed to go just fine!!

Guess Not.

I've had this grey boatneck sweater since before I had children. I love the look of it, but the fit is not the best. I toyed with the idea of getting rid of it recently, but after wearing it today, decided that I would keep it, but now that I've seen it in a photo....

Also, I'm growing out my hair. Not because I'm tired of my short hair - far from it - but I figure that I will eventually, and if I start growing it out now, then by the time I want to grow it out, I'll already be half way there!

The Photographer hard at work

I have some new ideas and things to do with this blog. I hope you will enjoy them!

In the meantime, please enjoy my shoes walking up the stairs:
Still my favourite shoes.

But I should really not drive while wearing them.

I love my legs. They are my best feature. I always look my best when I am walking away.

Lady Grey 159.8

Grey Tights
I bought this dress as Costco on the day before Thanksgiving while in line. Its super comfy, but shows every line and bump. One needs SERIOUS shapewear in order to wear it.

I got the tights the same day as the dress, but at the grocery store. I was just looking to see if I could find some grey tights that I liked, and found these. I love them so much and think they are darling. Unfortunately, this dress is the only thing I own that they go with.

New favourite Steve Maddens and lip colour is the 24 hour Maybelline lip colour in "Constant Cabernet". No one in my family likes this lipstick but me. I care not because the scale registered at below 160 today!!

40th Anniversary Fluevogs - 162.4

I stand befuddled in my closet daily staring at my clothes and deciding what to wear so that I can blog about it. You would think I would come up with better ideas, but like every woman on the planet, I have nothing to wear. These are my Fluevog 40th anniversary reissue Truth Pilgrims. They are so comfortable. They fit my feet perfectly, give the right kind of support and don't hurt my back. If I ever meet Mr. Fluevog again I will kiss him directly on the mouth for making these shoes.
I had some extra time yesterday morning so I did my nails. I try to do my nails once a week and theme my outfits around my colour choice. I didn't have enough time to do a full on manicure, so I couldn't do the dark colour I really wanted to do, so I thought I would go with a "different" colour, so I chose this Barbie pink. I had planned to wear mostly black and white this week as I don't have much in the way of Barbie pink. In my morning haze, however that was completely forgotten.

I had decided on the Fluevogs, the grey tights, the white t-shirt and grey cardigan, but couldn't decide on a skirt. This olive plaid skirt caught my attention and I hadn't worn it in some time, so I grabbed it. Was running late as is usual on a Monday morning, so the hair got thrown in to a ponytail, and there you have it. Happy Monday everyone!

Afghan Sweater 163.4 Yay! Down from yesterday!

I had a bad night and morning and needed something comforting, so here it is:
My socks match my sweater, but no one could see because of my boots. It has the same effect as wearing sexy lingerie. No one knows you're wearing it but you and it gives you a confident awesome feeling.
I think The Photographer is getting better, but I think I need to smile and perhaps take the photo at the beginning of the day as opposed to at the end when I'm tuckered right the heck out. (yes those are wedding photos behind me)
Here are the socks:
The boots are my first Fluevogs. John Fluevog is so excellent that he deserves a post of his own. Same with these boots. I hope I can do it justice. Here is the Fluevog website.
My husband HATES the sweater/vest/afghan with a belt. He has no idea about what's in style, so I often don't take what he has to say in to consideration. My whole life I have taken risks when it comes to dressing. I dress for me and not for others and mostly always have and I am always happier when I dress for me. It's like I'm my own Barbie doll. I was having a bummer morning, and this sweater reminds me of the Afghans that my mother (the genius with anything involving needle and thread) used to crochet. I needed to have a "blankie" today, so I wore it.
Here are the boots:
The boots honestly do deserve a post of their own. To be brief, I have been a fan of Fluevogs since I discovered cool things around grade 10 which was in 1987. These are second generation Swordfish boots that I saved up for a year to buy and are the first pair of Fluevogs I ever owned. I bought them in 1990. They have been everywhere. I took them with me on my mission (thanks for the advice, Yra!), I wore them to my first trip to Hawaii, they have gone through rain and sleet and hail and sun and snow. Every gig I went to in every club in the early grunge years and many many times dancing were experienced while wearing these boots. I even wore them to the Calgary Stampede this year. Usually worn with jeans, I wear them with any kind of pant and they work for me. They are the only 'cowboy' boot that I wear on a regular basis.
June 1991 - This is what I wore for my mission farewell

I let my hair dry naturally today, so I wore my hoops to go with the '90's hair. (just kidding). The "base" of the outfit is a plain old ivory turtleneck and my black trousers that I've had since 2002 and are so faded that they are almost grey. I've had to fix the hem on these pants 3 times. They are super comfortable and cut in a way that I've been able to wear them at least once a week through Thick and Thin. I would really hate to see them go, but I DESPERATELY need a new pair of black pants. I seriously hate shopping and hate spending money even more. If it can't be done in 20 minutes, I'm not interested. So investing the time to find another pair of perfect black pants is seriously daunting and something I'd prefer not to do. I also only like shopping with someone I really really trust so that they can run interference with the irritating salespeople. I don't have anyone really like that here in Utah, so I end up going by myself which I don't mind too much other than having to deal with the irritating sales people. Having been an irritating salesperson for my first career I understand that they are just doing their job, and I can appreciate it, but I'm shy and I already don't want to be there, so I'm grumpy and not interested in becoming best friends with the bored clerks in Banana Republic or wherever I am. Because they're pants, I really do need to try things on and I hate the return process hassle with online shopping, and I need to be able to see the product up close, so I actually have to go out and SHOP. One day I'll have all my chores done and the boys' father will be busy doing something fun with them so I don't feel the guilt of leaving them abandoned to do something so selfish like shopping and I will find the perfect pants, but not until I lose 13 pounds.
